THE ALASSIO BEACH IS ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL ….
after the storm, what is new in Alassio and some notions from the past in pills
So it’s true … the storm swell of 29th October 2018 created a lot of damages to the coast and to the promenades of the whole Liguria gulf and Alassio has certainly not been spared!
Waves up to nine meters high hit the beach, the outdoor area of the bars and inside them. Show at the apocalyptic limit, but however very suggestive.
Since the newscasts have long targeted us with images and TV specials, we want to reassure you: Alassio beach is as wide as that of last summer and it is waiting for you.
The photo of our article was taken on March 25th at 3.13 pm right in front of the Hotel Ligure. Are you convinced?
And here below, some notions about our wonderful beach..If we consider its geographical position, the expanse and depth of its shore, the possibility of bathing from March to November, the slight slope of the seabed, the mild climate throughout the year, the quality of services in over 100 bathing establishments and the panoramic view both from Capo Mele and from Capo S. Croce, Alassio has to be considered one of the best beaches in the world.
The beach, with its natural sand (and not repainted!) gray-white, very fine and free of dust, stretches for about four kilometers, joining the enchanting village of Laigueglia.
In the mid-nineteenth century the English discovered the beneficial influences and the pleasure of marine baths. They were the first to discover and exploit the benefits of iodine, of which the strictly natural sand is rich. Today as then, the sea represents an important resource for Alassio, which together with the particular conformation of the beach and the beneficial climate make it an important tourist resort on the Riviera delle Palme.
The fine sand and the gentle slope of the seabed remind us of tropical beaches.
To better illustrate the Alassio sand, we report a passage from the report by geologist Franco Scarpati taken from the study » the climatology of the Alassio bay »: « The sand consists of a high percentage of quartz and silicates (about 76%) while the remainder it is of a calcareous nature. The powder content is extremely negligible and the granulometry, referring to the entire sandy surface, reveals a maximum percentage (75.61%) of granules with a diameter of mm. 0.177.
The elements indicated above, together with the granulometric homogeneity and the greyish color, make it the best sandy sediments. »
