The good habits we embraced during the holidays can help us preserve a sense of well-being and gently ease the transition back to everyday life. Here are six simple rituals that made our summer brighter—and that we can carry into the new season to keep feeling good and, just maybe, extend that holiday feeling a little longer.
1. Get Enough Sleep On holiday, we allowed ourselves to rest, recover and enjoy a bit of healthy laziness. Why not continue that rhythm? Even if the alarm clock is back in charge, try going to bed a little earlier or carving out extra relaxation time on the weekend. And if you feel tired during the day, a short afternoon nap—just fifteen minutes—can work wonders. Experts agree: it’s a real boost for body and mind.
2. Eat Well and with Joy During the summer, we often paid more attention to what we ate—more fruit and vegetables, more local flavors. If you brought home some delicacies from your holiday destination, share them with friends. Flavors and aromas are powerful memory triggers, and a dinner inspired by your travels is a great way to relive the experience.
3. Keep Moving Summer kept us active—between swims, hikes and city strolls, we were constantly on the move. Returning to a desk-bound routine can feel like a shock. Even if your work is sedentary, take every chance to stretch, walk, and move. Give your eyes a break from screens every two hours, and try walking while on phone calls or doing a few desk-friendly exercises. Your back will thank you.
4. Make Time for Fun Fun doesn’t belong only to holidays. With a bit of planning, you can still carve out time for hobbies and passions—even just on weekends. Think back to what brought you joy this summer and recreate those moments. If you rediscovered the pleasure of company, don’t let the “I have no time” excuse win. Reach out to friends you haven’t seen in a while.
5. Stay Outdoors After weeks spent in the open air, returning to indoor routines can feel confining. Even if the beach or mountain trails are behind you, a walk in the park or a short trip to the countryside can keep the summer spirit alive. Sunlight boosts your mood, helps synthesize vitamin D, and even prolongs your tan.
6. Cultivate Curiosity Curiosity isn’t just a trait—it’s a tool. Studies show it helps reduce anxiety and improve resilience. Exploring new ideas or places, asking questions, and staying open to the unknown can trigger positive brain responses and help us face daily stress with a lighter heart.
